Meals on Wheels
San Francisco doesn’t do fast food. We definitely don’t do drive-thrus… there are only four fast food drive-thrus in San Fran proper. Thank you city council! Instead, we embrace our ethnic diversity and celebrate culinary entrepreneurs. The newest eateries feature a chef + a cart + a twitter account (finally, a reason to go into the Twittersphere). But first let’s honor the pioneers of the street food movement.
The SF Street Food Trailblazers:
- The Bacon Dog Cart (1125 Folsom St x 7th or lurking in the shadows around Mission x 23rd St)
- Crepes a Go Go (350 11th St. Get the House Special–turkey, eggs, cheese)
- The Tamale Lady (Valencia x Duboce)
- El Toyanese Taco Truck (14th St and Harrison St)
- Los Compadres Taco Truck (Spear St and Folsom St)
The new guard of SF eateries are armed with their mobile phones and Twitter accounts. If you are able to chase them down, you will be treated to a new riff on Slow Food. Happy Hunting!
