Sigalert: Real-Time Traffic

Traffic Speed at Every Highway Offramp

I know I know. “Google Maps is the best. Tru dat. Double True!” Thank you Lazy Sunday.

Sigalert Highway Hazard Alert.jpgOk, Parnell and Samberg… you might be right if you’re simply walking around the city to a movie. But for the commuters and weekend warriors, Sigalert helps you minimize the time you spend on the highway. How? They create a traffic mosaic of all the local highway speeds clocking the MPHs at each offramp. Updating by the minute, Sigalert pipes in data from their partners SpeedInfo, Caltrans, and the CHP. Sorry Web 2.0 techies, they do not get data from drivers tweeting their speed.

Sigalert Text of Route.jpgSigalert offers an inexpensive membership for those ready to earn a black belt in traffic aikido—the art of blending with the motion of the attacker (traffic) and avoiding the gridlock through circumnavigation and/or rescheduling. Members are able to create personalized routes and initiate regular alerts via email and text. You might still get stuck in traffic but at least you now can mentally prepare for the worst.

Hat Tip to Wyeth G. for the recommendation! Please continue to share your best ideas on how to do San Francisco. Pitch Mister Archer.
