The Open Mic Zeitgeist

Unleash Your Inner Shakespeare, Satriani or Sarah Silverman

All the world’s a stage… but do you have the guts to step up to the mic?

Comedy at Annie_s Social Club Picture.jpgThere’s been a recent renaissance in the local open mic scene expanding past penniless guitarists and urban hipsters. These diverse performances feature consultants as comedians, paralegals as poets, and medics as musicians… are alliterations always appreciated? (Applause!) Open mics deliver a different type of energy—starting with respect for someone taking a risk and making the leap from spectator to participant. Sure, we’re all good looking, but we ain’t merely wallflowers.

The quintessential open mic event in the City actually has no microphone. Each Thursday, a diverse collection of folks convenes at 16th and Mission to entertain without boundaries. Other distinctive open mic nights listed below. Why then, can one desire too much of a good thing?

Till next time!
