“Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses.”
Dorothy Parker should’ve purchased her glasses at Warby Parker–the new site for those who want to see (prescription eyewear) and be seen (look darn good too). Warby Parker offers boutique quality at a reasonable price… all prescription glasses are $95. How? They independently design their lenses then sell directly and exclusively through their website. Be gone expensive middleman! And with each purchase, Warby Parker will donate one pair of glasses through a partnership with the non-profit Restoring Vision.
Where else could you find tutus and tattoos joined together in perfect harmony?
Roller derby is making a Fernet-like comeback. The Bay Area Derby Girls, an all-women flat-track roller derby league, host their inaugural bout of the 2010 season pitting the Richmond Wrecking Belles vs Sac City Rollers. If you thought the Olympics short-track speedskating was riveting… like when the Koreans crashed into each other on the infamous final lap, just imagine intentional contact by the opposing team. Next Saturday, head over to the Craneway Pavilion—a spectacular venue with sweeping views of the bay. Order up a few “Blue Collar” drink specials: a shot of Makers and a microbrew for $5.
How embarrassed would you be if someone unearthed the most absurd moments from your adolescence? Your awkward love letters? Your insidious schemes? Would you be humiliated?? Disgraced??? Mortified!
Mortified, a PG-13ish stage performance, features six every day people sharing what they never thought they would share. Never ever! Nothing is off limits… diary entries recounting the stalking of a high school crush, a narcissistic fantasy involving Doogie Howser, daydreamed felonies against a rival suitor, or the Naval Officer’s revelation that his hookup wasn’t actually a Thai woman. The lone requirement…
Seeking out a downtown lunch spot so undiscovered that even the pigeons don’t know about it?
Nestled in the urban forest of skyscrapers are courtyards, plazas, sun terraces, greenhouses, public sitting areas, rooftop gardens, and corporate atriums. Unfortunately, many of these hidden gems were just that… hidden. Fortunately, SPUR quietly released a pdf guide revealing 68 privately-owned public open spaces (“POPOS”). Invite a couple colleagues and embark on an adventure. Experience the thrill of urban life while taking a moment to appreciate the generosity and tolerance…
Have you heard of the Jejune Institute? No? Good!
For the intrepid and adventurous, attend a “free seminar” downtown to learn more about the Jejune Institute. Simply show up at 580 California Street, Suite 1607, on Tuesday through Sunday, from noon to 5:30pm. You will exchange your driver’s license for a key to the future. Bring a buck, commit a couple spare hours, and maybe invite a few friends…

They say you can't judge a book by its cover... but that was long before there was the magical Kindle 2 which absolutely requires a cover for safety and style.
The Kindle 2 might not have come into this world naked... but pretty darn close. Amazon's prepackaged cover would've been great for a hotel pad of paper and a pen. But job numero uno for a cover is safety. (safety never takes a holiday.) So for a $300+ device, I require a durable cover that will protect my Kindle if I accidentally gravity test it.
The Bobarra Thoreau cover has 4 elastic bands securely latching my Kindle into the cover. Thoreau once said that “books are the carriers of civilization.” But when civilization needs to carry their book, they don't want to be worried about dropping them. For someone who is always running around, I sincerely appreciate the safety of the Thoreau.
But I'm not one to compromise on style. I love the sleek brown leather with fastidious stitching around the edges... professional and cool—I've gotten a few inquiries about where I purchased this cover while riding the bus around town.
Overall, I am very happy with my Kindle 2 and love my Thoreau cover.
